wedding scam?

"Dear Lisa,
Contragulations! You have won tickets and prize packages to the Pink Apron Preview. You have been selected because you or your bridesmaids have entered you into this drawing.

Here is information on your Pink Apron Preview.
You and your fiancé will receive:

  • A 3 Day, 2 Night all inclusive accommodation package for two to your choice of Dominican Republic, Puerto Vallarta or Cancun Mexico. This package includes all your meals, beverages, non-motorized sports and live entertainment on the resort.Even if you have already scheduled your honeymoon, this may be a really nice second honeymoon or even a vacation.
  • Discounts for 20% off invitations, thank you notes, wedding accessories and favors by Carlson Craft
  • A 20-40% discount good toward any of our bridal packages available at the Pink Apron Preview.

Altogether your package plus the discounts have an approximate value of $700!"

I received a phone call from this company telling me i won a prize for me and my fiance, a bridal package for $700 dollars, and an email confirmation was sent later.
I dont know if I am a cynic or maybe bc i am a realist
and understand that there is nothing "free" in life
that alarm bells immediately started going off.

here are some inconsistencies in the story they were presenting:
a)technically i am not engaged. so i dont have a fiance.
b)i also dont have bridesmaids.
c)i havent signed up for this
d)as i was talking to the sales pitch lady, another lady called and left me the exact same voicemail.
e)as she was talking, i googled "pink apron.
i found "simple gourmets" is the same company and they
put on these preview shows. basically if you go to their show, they practically force you to buy their cooking products that are overpriced and poor quality. some horror stories states that they continually call you over and over until you make some sort of commitment to purchase something.

moral of this story:
nothing in life is free.
there are always catches.

Very strong willed people (such as fiance and myself) said no and got the hell out of dodge. We still got out free 3 night 2 day vacation at an all inclusive resort, but we'd have to pay for... taxes, travel, blah blah.

Yeah, like you said. Nothing in life is free.

i (stupidly) entered to win a free dress from davids bridal and am now on their spam list... phone calls, emails saying i won something and have to call them to find out what... I wrote them a nasty email saying i never agreed to have vendors call me, late at night. it seemed to help. damn those wedding spammers. I wouldn't trust it

My Fiance and I attended the little seminar for the Simplicity Gormet aka pink apron. The barely talk about this not all free trip only about there cook ware. I was a sucker and bought 2 pans and now we are cancelling our order. They even gave us a sob story telling us not to cancel because it would disqualify them from winning a new car!

Hi. The law says you have to pay the taxes and fees, but once you get to the resort, it's all inclusive.

The Pink Apron event I went to was not high pressure sales. If you wanted to purchase, fine, if not, fine too. They demo the cookware and it cooks good!
