our conception story

hubby and I got married in June of 2009.
before the wedding, I would have regular periods like clockwork and then have occasional irregular periods.  it was weird and unpredictable and I wanted to make sure I could control it because we were having two weddings (yes two!) in two different countries.  so about six months before the wedding, i started taking bcp.  we weren't in a rush to have children.  i was still in grad school and getting started in my job.

several months after the wedding, married ladies will tell me that sometimes if you are on bcp it can take longer to conceive.  so i quit bcp and didn't think much of it.  if it happened, it happened and we would be pregnant.

a year after we got married, my hubby's company really grew. he has been with the company for over 5 years and was promoted to senior engineer and therefore started traveling A LOT. additionally, we had a lot of friends who married after us and got pregnant right away.  we were happy to congratulate them but didn't feel the urge to have children yet.

after our 2nd anniversary, everyone that got married around the time we did had a child or was pregnant.  my mom started freaking out and pressuring me to hurry up and have children.  she was worried that there were fertility problems and wanted us to go get tested.  i explained over and over that owoo's travel schedule conflicts with my internal schedule but there was no use.  she was convinced that something internally was wrong.  my period also turned back to pre-bcp terms:  clockwork for several months and then really randomly irregular for one month.

in the fall of 2011, we were planning a trip to korea to see the inlaws.  my parents go to korea every year around the same time so she wanted us to go see a fertility specialist while we were in korea.  korea has a very good healthcare system (read--cheaper) and my mom wanted me to check it out while we were there.  luckily (for me):  you have to be on your period to schedule an appointment.  the week before i was supposed to leave, i had finished and completed my period so timing would be off.

we did end up going to the hubby's brother in law's oriental medicine office.  the BIL is a doctor of oriental medicine and we did get an overall checkup at his office.  he gave us herbal medicine to take every day for a month and mine had natural herbal ingredients that's supposed to help with fertility.
we finished taking this during November of 2011.

the beginning of 2012 was very very hectic for me.  The first week of January, I was in New Orleans for a week for school.  The 2nd week of January, I was at home but I was commuting to the school's  extension center everyday for a workshop from 9 to 6pm.  The 3rd week of January, I traveled to LA and San Diego to visit friends and hubby who was working there.  The 4th week of January, when I was finally home, I was exhausted.  Like I couldn't get out of bed and function for several days exhaustion.  I always get tired after traveling and with nonstop stuff going on for the past 3 weeks, I just chalked it up to that and didn't think much of it.

I had received a Kindle fire for Christmas and just started playing with it.  Kindle fire comes with a month free subscription to Amazon Prime.  They have streaming episodes of Grey's Anatomy (fav show!) for free and I was in bed, watching it when an episode came on where Christina is talking to a patient about the last time she had her period and realizes that she hasn't had her period in awhile and it dawns on her that she is pregnant.  I got a strange feeling and I checked my period tracker app on my iphone and realized that the last time I had mine was early December (so almost 2 months).

Again, the last time I had my period it was like 40 days in between cycles so I didn't automatically jump  to the conclusion that I could be pregnant.  In fact, I just assumed my period was late again.  Just in case, I went to Target and bought a pregnancy test.  I came home and took the test when there was def two lines.  I was in such disbelief that I decided to take it again.  Again, two lines came out.  I called the doctor immediately and made an appointment for the next day.  Hubby was still in LA and so I called him and texted him a picture of the two lines.

On January 27th, I went to the doctor and she confirmed that I was definitely pregnant!  It was awesome to hear and my parents was incredibly excited as well!  We are now at 30 weeks and can't wait to meet our daughter soon!!
